Culture in San Luis

The person visiting San Luis encounters a community possessing a rich tradition and characterized by great cultural dynamism throughout the year. The musical tradition is perfectly reflected in the "Deixem lo dol", a joyful chant of the Resurrection of the Lord, which a group formed by town residents performs on Easter Sunday in various settings: the Parish Church, the Town Hall plenary hall, and the theater hall of the Centro Cultural y Deportivo San Luis. The theatrical aspect has its most significant exponent in the performance of "Els Pastorells", a popular drama of the birth of Jesus Christ, staged during the Christmas holidays by the San Luis Artistic Group. The game of "bolla" is similar to petanque, although it presents certain characteristics and rules of play that give it a personality of its own. It was a very widespread game in Menorca, but currently its practice is restricted exclusively to our town, specifically to the game court or "jugadero" of the CCD San Luis. Cultural events take place during the months of July and August, with numerous activities: concerts, exhibitions, theater, etc. For a couple of years now, an interesting art purchase and sale market, Art Market, has been organized, which makes ceramics and paintings by local artists available to those interested at an affordable price. San Luis has a drum and bugle band, a majorette group, a choir, a folk dance school, a group of "Geganters", and a periodic publication, the magazine S'AUBA.
